For Extruded Abstraction, students are asked to find an abstract painting that speaks to them.  Then the visually analyze the frormal elements and principles of the work to get a grasp on how the artist was successfully working in two dimensions on canvas.  They are then tasked with "extruding" that formal language into three dimensional space.  In addition to working with and understanding the vocabulary of design, they must also figure out how to make their project from three different points of view.  This is also a chance for them to explore the expressive potential of glaze, underglaze and color.
